3 Self-Care Tips to Get You Through the Holidays

Written by Heather Burkart

I'm passionate about helping women unlock their greatest potential to experience the energy, focus, and mood that they deserve.

Don’t try to do it all during the holiday season including all the self-care things you wish you had time for. A good mantra or reminder may be “less is more.”

The holidays can be a stressful and hectic time of year, leaving little time to focus on self-care. However, it is important to prioritize your well-being during this busy period to make the most of the season and ensure you remain healthy and balanced. Here are three simple self-care tips to help you get through the holidays stress-free.

Set Realistic Expectations for Holiday Self-Care

There’s a lot going on during the holidays and it’s hard not to overbook yourself. However, saying no to more commitments or tasks can help open up more time in your schedule for self-care and relaxation. Even if it’s just five minutes, taking that time to practice mindfulness can have a huge impact on your mental and emotional well-being.

When we say no, we are saying yes to ourselves. It may be difficult at first, but we will be rewarded in the end. If you tend to agree to everything, it might take practice for you to come up with other things to say. For example, try to reply with a simple phrase like I’ll think about it or that sounds great! Giving yourself more time to think about the idea is more time to reconsider what really matters.

The good news is that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or take a lot of time. In fact, simple acts like taking a few minutes to meditate, getting in some extra sleep, or cooking your favorite meal can make a world of difference.

Take Care of Your Self This Holiday Season

The holiday season can be incredibly busy, and it’s all too easy to forget about yourself. Instead of feeling overwhelmed and overscheduled this year, take a few moments for self-care. Start by choosing one simple thing you can do every day for a short period of time. It could be something as simple as a relaxing bath or a short walk outside to enjoy the fresh air. Even if it’s just a few minutes of downtime where you can practice mindfulness, it can make all the difference in how you feel during the holidays. Mindfulness is an important part of self-care, and it doesn’t have to take up too much of your precious time.

If you can set aside five minutes in the morning to meditate and check in with yourself, it can be incredibly beneficial. Try focusing on your breath and clearing your head of distracting thoughts, just focusing on being present in the moment. Not only will you find yourself more energized and ready to tackle your day, but it’s a great way to ease into the holiday season.

Another great way to practice self-care during the holidays is to do something that brings you joy and makes you feel good. This could be anything from spending time with family or friends, going for a walk in nature, reading a good book, or even simply taking a break from your normal routine and doing something out of the ordinary.

The key is to make sure that whatever it is, it brings you joy and provides you with a sense of peace and contentment.

If you need some inspiration for what to do here are some ideas:

1. Take a few moments each day to appreciate your body and yourself. Take time to be thankful for the things your body can do and all of its capabilities.

2. Find something calming to do each day. Think of your favorite activities that bring you joy and make you feel relaxed. These could be things like yoga, stretching, reading, writing, or even just taking a few moments for yourself.
