Lunar Astrology for April 2024

New Moon in Pisces on April 8th

April’s New Moon will be in Pisces, a water sign represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions much like the Yin and Yang; a symbol of duality that seeks either distinction or unity or both. Pisces is ruled by the planet Jupiter, the expansive planet of learning and growing both personally and spiritually.

Mercury Retrograde Solar Eclipse: A Reflective Pause to See the Bigger Picture

On April 8th, the moon will block the Sun in a total solar eclipse visible in North America. Rahu is also involved as the North Node of the Moon that brings shadowy Vata-like energy that can act like Saturn. Prepare for the momentary darkness; perhaps a brief reflective pause or a moment of unknowing and forgetting our self-centered self.

The solar eclipse is an invitation to pause and see things from the cosmos’ perspective. All of us here on Earth looking up at our celestial parents, the Sun and Moon. We’re all just Earthlings, after all. Get your solar-eclipse glasses ready for this momentous event!

Mercury will also be in retrograde at this time so expect for things to go a little backwards around this time. Give yourself ample time to practice some self-compassion if that happens. New Moon time is a time of fortification and reflection, not of action and adding more to your plate. If anything, it’s a clearing of your plate. What still belongs? What doesn’t? What’s you? What’s not?

Mercury can be such a speedy, unpredictable planet that sometimes it needs to unwind itself a bit to correct course. It’s not a bad thing. In fact, retrogrades can be helpful times to take this time to slow down, take stock and attend to things that may have been missed (or yourself). Not to worry, it won’t be long before he goes direct towards the end of the month and is on his merry, haphazard way.

Pisces New Moon: Emotions Run Deep

Pisces people are empathic. They have deep feelings and connect with others through feelings. This New Moon is a good time to get in touch with your own feelings and do a little soul searching. Don’t be afraid to dive into the deep and look into the shadowy places. Look and then look a little longer. What do you see?

Pisceans are highly spiritual people which leads them down a path of personal growth towards enlightenment, known as Moksha in Yogic philosophy. This is a good time to pay attention to the spiritual journey that you’re on and consider your trajectory. Where are you heading?

Pisces is associated with the third eye, or Ajna, Chakra and the pineal gland buried deep in the middle of the brain that rules our ability to sleep and dream. It is the pineal gland that supports a healthy circadian rhythm and is responsible for secreting the hormone melatonin which is required for restorative sleep. The third eye chakra is a window into our intuition, emotional depth, and imagination.

A Pisces new moon is a good time to connect with the deeper aspects of being that include intuition, imagination, and emotional depth.

Pisceans enjoy almost psychic abilities, and you might get a glimpse of that during this Pisces New Moon especially if your Moon is in Pisces when you were born. Use this time to plug into the psychic energy that’s in abundance with Pisces and Jupiter.

Pisces is like the vast ocean and the freedom needed for water to flow. The message of the Pisces moon is to be open and free. To flow with nature and the cosmos (think big!).

Their openness can lead to vulnerabilities and boundaries may be an issue, however, as they might bite off more than they can chew.

They have a strong connection to imagination and intuition, and we can benefit from that during a Pisces Moon to tap into ours.

New Moon Self-Care Rituals

Ayurveda wisdom tells us to prepare for the low energy that is consistent with the waning and New Moon. Take some time during the week of the New Moon to tend to yourself. It can be a time of great vulnerability.

During the New Moon, it is very important to try to conserve energy as much as possible, especially for our dear Pisceans who can be a little hard on themselves. Trust your intuition and your heart about how you can best take care of yourself without listening to all the noise. Trust yourself.

Allow self-care to show up however it needs to.

Here are some suggestions for New Moon self-care rituals:

  • A relaxing bath with candles and calming essentials oils
  • A slow, meditative walk.
  • Head to bed early with a journal or an inspiring book.
  • Listen to an inspiring guided meditation
  • Get more rest
  • Eat cooked, nourishing foods that are easy to digest
  • Try to avoid stress
  • Plan TLC time even if it’s a little
  • Trust your gut feelings and let intuition lead

This is NOT a check list. Pick just ONE thing.

Tune into what your needs are and try to meet them with a kind gesture towards yourself that’s also very doable. Self-care shouldn’t feel stressful.

Remember that the moon cycles highlight our emotions and intuition. Trust your gut feelings. Listen to your body and your heart.

April’s New Moon in Revati Nakshatra

Nakshatras are known as lunar mansions or stations. There are 28 stations of the moon. The moon changes lunar stations every day, which makes nakshatras more specific to the lunar holiday (new or full moon) it correlates with.

ayurveda and astrology for women's wellness health and healing

This New Moon falls into the lunar mansion, or nakshatra, of Revati, a highly Sattvic position, ruled by Saturn with a watery, emotional disposition much like Jupiter’s. This can be a time of fulfillment and peace that might be accompanied by a sense of accomplishment or completeness. Or, we can become riddled with self-doubt, low confidence, and feeling more like a victim than a victor.

Revati Nakshatra: Make Peace Through Closure

Revati is the end of the line and where the sidereal zodiac comes to completion. It is the end of the full circle, which is nearly the start of the circle. Is it the end or is it a beginning? That’s up to you to decide.

As much as you can, tie up loose ends. What needs closure? It is a project or a conversation that needs to happen? Take those next or last steps. How can you close the circle? Finding completion aims to preserve energy in the long run so that we avoid going around and around without ever finding closure. Remember the Sattvic energy of Revati. Seek clarity and peace above all not just for all those involved – especially for you.

Third Eye Chakra Self-Care Rituals for April’s New Moon in Pisces

The invitation is to tap into the inner eye of the intuition and imagination. Anything is possible in the mind’s eye.

  • Listen to a guided Chakra meditation and direct your inner gaze towards the Ajna chakra.
  • Go for a slow, mindful walk.
  • Write down your thoughts.
  • Do nothing and allow your mind to drift and dream.
  • Doodle / Draw.
  • Use open awareness throughout your day.
  • See things through a beginner’s mind.
  • Chant OM (A-U-M)

Ayurveda & Yoga Practices for the New Moon

This is a great time for spiritual practices or anything that feeds your soul. You might be drawn to gentle or restorative yoga or a relaxing guided meditation like Yoga Nidra. Anything that serves to collect your energy rather than spend it.

Full Moon in Libra on April 23rd: Peace & Harmony

April’s Full Moon is in Libra, an Air sign ruled by bright, beautiful Venus. Libra, whose sign is the scales, is all about balance and fairness. This Full Moon, look for all those things that help bring equity and harmony.

Librans are know mediators, peacemakers, diplomats, and any kind of go-between that facilitates peace and justice. These judicious people are not boring! They love people, making connections, and being sociable. They’re stylish charm seduces us to be in their good graces. That said, they can be frivolous and a indecisive constantly weighing their decisions; they’re known procrastinators because of this.

Embrace this social Full Moon and put yourself out there! Connect with the people you cherish the most – or maybe start some new friendships. There is an abundance of energy for new partnerships, too. Spread the love.

Find Balance & Harmony for the Full Moon in Libra

Libra rules the kidneys, adrenal glands, urinary system, lower back muscles, lumbar spine, and nerves, reproductive organs (ovaries and testes), and skin. That’s a lot! If your energy is unbalanced, Librans might feel it most in these areas.

Remember that Libra is all about balance. This is a good time to pay more attention balance in general and also in particular to these places in our physical bodies. Focus on energy production and preservation with foods and rituals that nourish a sense of harmony in your gut-mind system. If something seems off-balance in the gut, there is probably a corresponding factor in the mind and visa versa. Librans understand this connection intimately.

Ayurvedic Skin Care for Libra & Planetary Ruler Venus

Rose – the ideal Venusian flower and eternal symbol of love, is also a cooling, nourishing herb in Ayurvedic herbal medicine especially for the skin. The fragrance is stimulating to the Heart Chakra and soothing to the scattered Libran mind. Put organic rose petals in a cotton satchel with lavender and immerse it into a warm, aromatic bath. Pure bliss!

Rose Geranium – use the essential oil in a toner to beautify sensitive Libran skin and soothe irritations. Wet the skin with rose water. Moisten a cotton ball with rose water and and apply one drop of essential oil. A little goes a long way!

My favorite skin moisturizer is hands down Banyan Botanical’s Beauty Balm with Rose Geranium and Shatavari. Use the affiliate link above with the code WELLBEING15 to save 15% on your first order. I use it every single day!

Here’s a beauty ritual that no Libran should be without. (It’s actually my Sun sign).

#1: Tone with Rose Water

  • Moisten skin with warmish water. Spritz the skin with rose water (no weird ingredients, please!) I use Heritage Store Brand (below).

#2: Apply Rose Geranium Essential Oil

Moisten a cotton ball with rose water and add one drop of Rose Geranium essential oil to a cotton ball. Apply to the face gently.

Look for organic essential oils where available (below). Librans are very sensitive to weird ingredients!

#3: Moisturize with Beauty Balm

Spritz clean hands with rose water and add a generous dab of Beauty Balm. Spread over hands and all over face and neck. Give yourself a marma face massage or do face yoga. Now hands, face, and neck are beautifully moisturized and you smell like a spring garden. And, you can feel good that you’re using 100% natural skin care products.

March’s Full Moon in Swati Nakshatra Lights The Way

This Full Moon will take place in the lunar mansion, or nakshatra, of Swati, associated with the Moon, associated with the mind, emotions, intuition, and the Divine Feminine. A lunar double whammy!

Swati is ruled by the Sun God Savitar that serves to specifically highlight the intellect, aid understanding, and removes negativity from the mind. This helps us make more fair and judicious choices.

It can be a time of cooperation and positivity or we can be tempted into pessimism and insensitivity. Which will you choose? It may depend on where the Moon is placed in your chart and how it is affected by other planets. Keep reading for more on that.

Heart Chakra Self-Care Rituals for Swati Nakshatra

Connect with the Anahata Chakra, or Heart Chakra on the day of the Full Moon. Strengthen the connection between heart and mind (Sadhaka Pitta), located in the heart.

A few suggestions for heart-centered self-care rituals:

  • yoga poses that help to open the heart center like gentle back bends and chest openers
  • self-care rituals that nourish your heart like cooking yourself a delicious meal or enjoying your favorite activities, and spending time with your favorite people
  • seva, or selfless service helping others
  • gratitude meditation
