June 2024: Lunar Astrology for Full Moon Rituals for Women

New Moon in Taurus on June 6th

June’s New Moon will be in Taurus, a fixed Earth sign, and the second sign in the Zodiac. Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty, love, and relationships. This New Moon encourages us to be strong and steady in our restorative practices as we set our intentions and get ready to launch into the summer season starting with the Solstice on the 21st.

Taurus can be resistant to change; so, as summer approaches remember this is a time to be open to changing our habits and routines so we can switch gears to a Pitta-friendly “cool as a cucumber” mindset.

Good to know: Taurus rules the neck, throat, thyroid gland, and ears. It is associated with the Heart, Anahata, Chakra.

New Moon time is not the time for big actions or decisions. It’s time to reflect and look compassionately at our feelings and thoughts. It’s a reflective time of setting intentions for the beginning of another lunar cycle. What are you looking forward to?

Mercury Remains Direct Until August

Mercury remains direct until August 4, 2024. Why is this important? Mercury is our speedy delivery system in the sky that carries information, makes connections, and supports learning and travel (all types of journeys). He encourages us to be the ever-learning student as he presents useful lessons to us even if they don’t seem useful at the time (more of a hassle, really).

Saturn Begins Retrograde at the End of June

That said, keep in mind that other planets go into retrograde as well. Both Saturn and Jupiter, our big outer planets will both experience retrograde this year. Saturn begins his starting June 29th and will last until November 15th. Jupiter will begin his retrograde from October 9th through February 3rd.

Prepare for setbacks from these great celestial teachers during that time especially if those planets are strongly placed in your chart like for Aquarius and Capricorn for Saturn (Saturn in the 1st, 11th or 12th Houses) and Sagittarius and Pisces for Jupiter (or Jupiter in the 1st, 9th & 12th Houses).

Remember that when the student shows up, the teacher will be there by your side.

Taurus Self-Care for the New Moon: Time to Adapt

Taurus folks are headstrong sometimes stubborn people who lean towards familiarity and practicality. That said, the low energy vibe of the New Moon may urge us to explore what may be on the horizons this lunar cycle and be open to being adaptable and flexible.

This may be challenging for our dear Taurus’ who resist change sometimes even if they know it would be helpful. We might all take this perspective and benefit from something that we’ve been putting off.

The New Moon marks the beginning of the lunar cycle and along with Taurus and Venus means a strong start to the month with plenty of Earth energy on our side.

Taurus’ love to indulge their senses. You might meet the moment with a sumptuous meal or listen to your favorite relaxing music.

Yoga for Taurus New Moon and Heart Anahata Chakra

Taurus is associated with the heart or Anahata Chakra, which aligns with Venus’ attributes of love and beauty in all things, especially in relationships. This being a New Moon, I suggest a grounding yet energizing yoga posture flow that supports strength and stability at the same time uplifting.

A Taurus New Moon Yoga Practice is an invitation to focus on strengthening and energizing yoga postures using the Earth as home base.

Dive into this New Moon yoga practice with me!

My Yoga Pose Picks for Taurus New Moon

Cat-Cow / Marjaryasana– helps to warm the spine and condition the vagus nerve

Crescent Low Lunge & Heart Opener / Anjaneyasana – ditto

Warrior Flow / Virabhadrasana – from a strong start, flow from warrior to side angle and back to reverse warrior to open up the ribcage that support the heart

Puppy Pose / Uttana Shishosana – to release tension around the back of the heart and in the shoulders

Bridge Pose / Setu Bandha Sarvangasana – helps to open the chest and heart area

Breathing Exercises (Pranayama) for Taurus New Moon & Anahata Heart Chakra

For a Taurus New Moon, I suggest a gentle Ujjayi / Ocean breathing to gently warm and stimulate the mind-body system used throughout yoga practice as long as that feels okay. Be careful not to overdo it which will stress the nervous system.

While holding postures, try a more robust Dirgha / 3-part breathing that flares the ribs and chest to massage the chest / heart area.

Ayurvedic Herbs for The Taurus New Moon: Holy Basil & Rose

Taurus is a cool, heavy Earth sign, so they need balancing warm and uplifting plant medicine. For this, I choose Tulsi because it is warming, stimulating, and also a wonderful adaptogen for stressors that may push our buttons around the New Moon. Tulsi is associated with opposite energy of Mercury which will give Taurus some get up and go energy.

Tulsi, otherwise known as Holy Basil, is a magical plant. It hails from the mint family and has an extra pungent punch to help stoke an Earthy, slow digestion especially first thing in the morning. It brightens the mind with its lightness and helps us breathe more deeply. Perfect for an early morning beverage as you’re preparing for your day (or yoga practice!).

Another reason to reach for Tulsi this New Moon is its heart-centered benefits. It helps to stimulate circulation through the heart and the whole circulatory system.

Rose is associated with the planet of beauty and love and adds a loving, soothing, cooling energy that supports the Anahata Heart Chakra in this tea recipe.

Balanced Heart Tulsi Tea

This is a hearty tea (can’t miss a pun!) with a little sweetness and spice that counteracts the drying quality of Tulsi. Steep it up to 10 minutes to get a deep, amber brew.

  • 1/2 c. dry Tulsi tea leaves
  • 1 Tbsp. dry marshmallow root (or licorice root)
  • 2-3 slices fresh ginger root (or 1/4 tsp. dry ginger root)
  • sprinkle of rose petals or buds
  • 4 cups water

Place tea in a quart mason jar. Pour 2 cups of hot water over the leaves and set aside.

Bring 2 cups of water to a simmer with the marshmallow (or licorice) root. Turn off the heat and let steep 5-10 minutes.

Strain both teas into the mason jar. Add the slices of ginger (or dry ginger).

Stir well.

Sweeten to taste.

For more nourishment, add a little milk of your choice. This is my current favorite. Yum!

Enjoy cool or warm.

If you don’t have time to throw ingredients together choose from Organic India’s many Tulsi tea blends.

New Moon Ayurveda Self-Care Rituals

Ayurveda wisdom tells us to prepare for the low energy that is consistent with the waning and New Moon. Take some time during the week of the New Moon to tend to yourself. It can be a time of great vulnerability.

During the New Moon, it is important to try to conserve energy as much as possible, especially for our dear Ariens who like to push themselves. Trust your intuition and your heart about how you can best take care of yourself without listening to all the noise. Listen to your body.

Allow self-care to show up however it needs to.

Here are some suggestions for New Moon self-care rituals:

  • A relaxing bath with candles and calming, cooling essentials oils like mint, rose and/or chamomile
  • A slow, meditative walk in nature.
  • Head to bed early with a journal or an inspiring book.
  • Listen to an inspiring guided meditation.
  • Trust your gut feelings and let intuition guide you.

Tune into what your needs are and try to meet them with a kind gesture towards yourself that’s also very doable. Self-care shouldn’t feel stressful.

Remember that the moon holidays highlight our emotions and intuition. Trust your gut feelings. Listen to your body and your heart.

June’s New Moon in Rohini Nakshatra: Growth & Abundance

Nakshatras are known as lunar mansions or stations. There are 28 stations of the moon. The moon changes lunar stations every day, which makes nakshatras more specific to the lunar holiday (new or full moon) it correlates with.

full moon rituals for women's health and wellbeing inspired by Ayurveda astrology

This New Moon falls into the lunar mansion, or nakshatra, of Rohini ruled by the Moon (double Moon power!) and the Divine Creator Prajapati. This is a place of abundance, growth, and creation. What seeds do you want to sow this New Moon that you want to tend over this next lunar cycle?

This can be fruitful time or a resistant time. Which will you choose?

Rohini Nakshatra is associated with the throat or Vishuddha Chakra. You might find it helpful to talk to a friend or speak up for yourself to manifest what you’re seeking. Listen to the stories you are telling yourself and see if you need to change the script. What do you need to hear?

Full Moon in Sagittarius on June 22nd

June’s Full Moon is in Sagittarius, a Fiery sign ruled by Jupiter. It governs the major muscles of the hips, thighs, glutes, the big bones of the pelvis, the thigh bone, and the lower spine. These are all the big parts of the body that control stability and mobility.

This passionate Full Moon is all about going places; both internally and externally. Be open to the adventures that may arise.

Sagittarians are drawn to excitement and exploration. They want to see new places and have new sensory experiences. This Full Moon invites us to look beyond our comfort zones (yes, again!) and to seek what our hearts desire. To embrace adventure and to say yes to the unknown.

Sagittarius also rules the functions of the brain’s left hemisphere that involves objective thinking and reasoning urging us to think before you jump to conclusions.

June’s Full Moon in Mula Nakshatra: Face Your Fears

This Full Moon falls into the lunar mansion, or nakshatra, of Mula ruled by Nirriti the chaos and loss, and the planet Ketu who pushes us towards the transformative experiences that we need to evolve.

This is an ideal time to seek the truth and transformation so you can progress to the next step of the soul’s journey. Or will you succumb to fear and lose your way?

Mula Nakshatra is also associated with the Solar Plexus Manipura Chakra. This is an ideal time to support your power and control center to be strong in the face of doubt and fear.

Full Moon Rituals for Sagittarius and Solar Plexus Chakra Rituals

The invitation is to fuel the inner fire of the solar plexus chakra.

  • Listen to a guided meditation for the solar plexus chakra
  • Warming, stimulating pranayama (yogic breathing) like Bhastrika and Kapalabhati
  • Energetic yoga practice with poses that nourish the solar plexus chakra (see below)
  • Traktaka, candle-gazing
  • Celebrate by joining a Full Moon Gathering

Yoga Postures for the Full Moon in Sagittarius

In a Sagittarius Full Moon yoga practice, you might focus on poses that support healthy mobility and strength in the hips, lower back, and legs especially the thighs. The secondary focus is on balancing the solar plexus, where the fire element is contained.

A Sagittarius-style yoga practice can be a fun, adventurous experience. Try new postures that you might not usually practice every day. Don’t take it too seriously! Learn to laugh at your mistakes and try again.

Engage the senses and use herb incense or play sensual music that may connect you with your intuition as you move from pose to pose; using any variation that feels right for the moment.

Herbs for a Sagittarius Full Moon

For our fiery, impassioned Sagittarians, I love the idea of cooling and grounding herbs like Shatavari root (rich in phyto-estrogens), fennel, licorice root, and cardamom (great for fiery digestions). These herbs are nourishing and act as anti-inflammatory aids as well so we can balance our inner fire. I include anti-inflammatory turmeric for a touch of the Sun’s power for good digestion.

Sweet Shatavari Milk – Serves 2

1 tsp. ground shatavari root

1/2 tsp. ground fennel seed

1/4 tsp. ground licorice root

Pinches of cardamom and turmeric

Warm 16 ounces of your favorite milk on the stove and incorporate the herbs. Stir well.

Pour into a cup and allow to cool slightly.
